History

Saranne Reid has worked extensively throughout the music industry for over 15 years in all areas of licensing and business affairs and is now the leading authority on sample clearance matters in the UK. In addition Saranne has worked in house at several leading music law firms, been called on as an expert witness in copyright trials, has been a speaker at industry panels including In The City, Miami Winter Music Conference, London Calling, The Great Escape and Midem and has taught the sampling/music copyright element on various university law programmes.

Whilst the physical act of sampling itself has become easier and easier due to readily available technology the clearance process itself is still fraught with difficulty and it is vitally important that it is carried out in a professional, methodical manner to prevent a myriad of problems down the line. Our clients tell of sleepless nights before they cleared samples awaiting the dreaded “It’s so and so lawyers here, you have sampled our client’s work without permission, we’ll see you in court!” This is where Sample Clearance Services comes in.
